So pending a few final details, it would appear that I will be relocating to Singapore as of mid-June. Yes, the insanity of all this is that it's less than 8 weeks from now. This will be the fourth time I've shifted overseas but somehow this one feels like it will be a little more permanent than the other times. Where previously I've been forced to/content to shove everything I could into just two suitcases this time I'm actually considering shipping the creature comforts, e.g. book collection, over with me.
The job is a teaching one with a very good organisation that should provide some really good opportunities for the future. They're going to put me up in a hotel for the first 2 weeks while I find myself somewhere to live. Now this is an experience I've never had before. Previously my living arrangements have been organised for me or been a byproduct of convenience. I've already had a look at a few websites to get an idea of what is available so I'm quite excited about all this.
It may sound stupid, but the nice part about moving overseas is that you're left with noone but yourself. You've got the time and the space to look at the best and worst of yourself. Hopefully this means that I can strip aside more and more of those negative aspects (of which I have many I'm ashamed to say). So after two years of being back here in Melbourne, and finding that nothing much changed for me in terms of habits and career, it feels like a step forward to be headed off again. Perhaps I'm just not the kind of person to settle in one place. The older I get the more likely that seems.
Are we all just a bunch of wanderers?

I got 'Get Real' as well!
The answer to your question. Yes we are. Or at least I am. Come December, Hong Kong is the place where I've stayed the longest in the last three years and now I have my books with me, but they are housed in a place where I can easily take off again and not have worry in the world ~ For the moment, I'm content but my contantly itchy feet might have different ideas.
