Tomorrow I'll be running a PD at work entitled "Multimedia and the classroom". God knows what that means but after spending the last 20 minutes brainstorming I've finally realised what I will actually do. Funny that I feel more exposed teaching my students than I do teaching the teachers, but there we go. So the lion's share of this PD will be based around using PowerPoint. Anyone that knows me, SL you can stop giggling now, knows that up until about 6 months ago I knew nothing at all about PowerPoint. In fact, I'd never used it before much to my Singaporean tutor's dismay. I'd prefer to move pretty far beyond using PowerPoint but I'll be dealing with people even more technologically inept than I am and I only have an hour to do it, so I don't want to make their heads explode. Too much.
So I'll teach them how to create Digital Portfolios and how this can be used as a classroom tool for assessment and general learning for ESL students. From there I'll move on to creating quizzes using PowerPoint, which basically just entails hyperlinking slides together so the students just have to choose options etc. Think Sale of the Century (Temptation) and you're most of the way there. This is probably about as much as I'll get done in an hour with a bunch of technophobes, but really I'd like to get on to the use and value of YouTube as a classroom tool and blogging. Doubt I'll get to the meaty stuff though.
When I type the above it makes it seem halfway that I know what I'm on about. My co-workers will never know that I'm talking through my ass.
