After the heartbreaking news that Aishwarya Rai will not be accepting my offer of marriage, I seem beset by the news of another Bollywood star : Shilpa Shetty. I swear this girl is breaking the Internet into teeny, tiny pieces. A successful Bollywood actress, Shilpa agreed to appear in the English version of Celebrity Big Brother 2007. Apparently she'd never seen the program before so God knows what the producers told her to convince her to appear. Unfortunately for her, she's become the victim of some serious bullying on the part of some low-class English moles. One of the bullies is a previous Big Brother contestant while another is a former Miss Britain or some such who was stripped of her crown because she was sleeping with the judge... yup, these are the kinds of people we're dealing with here.
Go watch some of the clips on YouTube. Sadly, I'm checking them daily at the moment because this just seems to go from amazing to mortifying with each passing day. The point being that everywhere I go today I seem to be confronted with talk about this situation. While I'm glad the general viewing public are outraged by this whole thing, the cynical part of me can't help but wonder whether the outcry would be so huge if she was a dowdy Indian mother of 3. Certainly, Shilpa's beauty and obvious brains put a very attractive spin on this from a media point of view. And yes, I'll be tuning back in to YouTube tomorrow to find out the latest!
Over the past week or so I've realised just how itchy my feet have become. In April I'll have been back in Australia for two years!! I really do need to get the hell out of here. Few more months, Supervisor, few more months...
I'm in the doghouse right now. It's smelly in here.
